Rhodes Interform Scoop £1m Order
Rhodes Interform recently received an order from a major aerospace manufacturer for a 10,600 Tonne Flexible Die Press. The press will be designed and manufactured at the Wakefield site, and will be used to produce Aircraft Nacelles for Aircraft Engines. Purchased to keep pace with rising demand, the Customer is one of the leading players in the international nacelle market. It has a workforce of 3,500 employees and a presence in the Large Nacelles, Small Nacelles and Aero-structures market sectors. Commonly used for producing small batches of formed sheet-metal items, the Flexible Die Press offers important advantages in tooling costs and lead times over conventional machines. The press will also be the first of its size to use a Single Main Ram construction to improve overall machine guidance and reduce maintenance cost. The Pressing Pad Construction will be solid as opposed to layered and natural rubber will be used for the pressing pad material. As natural rubber breaks down into small 'granules', the wear patterns are more predictable and easily monitored, compared to Polymer Pressing Pads which can crack and split in service without warning. Efficient pad removal is performed by positively jacking the pad from its housing over the full extraction stroke. An Upstroke Main Table will also be used to ensure that all the high pressure components and points of maintenance are easily accessible.
